“Hello, we need a designer to developed a visual experience, from branding to web design, to immerse Kriter’s users in a vibrant movie community, enabling them to connect and share their passion.”
“Kriter is about a love for movies. A love for collecting valuable art and sharing our passion for films that were once seen as jokes for a long time.”
Context & Problem
The challenge with Kriter was to create a truly recognizable design that works effectively beyond just movie posters. I wanted the user to not only feel part of a community but also to provide them with the opportunity to discover movies or TV shows based on their personal interests as well as on the insightful guidance of other users within the platform.
Kriter boasts a myriad of features, ranging from the classic "Add to Watchlist" option to more specific actions like "Curate a Collection." All of these features and actions needed to be presented in a way that is simple and clear for users, ensuring they can understand immediately what Kriter is all about and how it can enhance their movie lover experience.
Solution & Role
For this project, I designed a cinematic and immersive design, focusing on dark, atmospheric look and feel. The design features full-bleed images drawing users into the featured content immediately. A dark theme, paired with vibrant accent colors and crisp typography, creates a mood that aligns with the genre while ensuring readability and visual hierarchy.
The layout is modular and intuitive, guiding users through featured shows, current theatre releases, editorial highlights, and personalized recommendations. Horizontal sliders and clear microinteractions make content easy to browse without overwhelming the user. The “Focus” section introduces editorial depth, giving the platform a unique voice. Overall, the design emphasizes storytelling, discoverability, and emotional resonance while staying scalable and user-centric.
Key takeaway
I wanted Kriter to be more than just another watchlist or movie database. My goal was for it to become a genuine community where passionate fans of Fantasy, Horror, and Sci-Fi movies could come together to share their love and enthusiasm for these genres.
I also wanted the entire website to evoke the feeling of being inside a movie theater. I envisioned a dark and cozy atmosphere that seamlessly blends with the trustworthy and polished nature of editorial content. I wanted Kriter to feel like your personal buddy—the one you turn to for movie recommendations, someone who truly knows your tastes and understands exactly what you’ll enjoy watching!
